Sifting in a Recipe?

When a shortbread recipe calls for everything to be sifted, can you still make them if you don't have a sifter?

Sifting without sifter
by: Olivia

You can use an ordinary colander or strainer and place it on top of another bowl. Measure and fill it with your dry ingredient (flour) and use something, like a wire whisk, to mix it well and pass the flour through the colander/strainer holes into the bowl.

Note: The finer the holes in strainer or colander are the better result you'll get.
